Manaseer Cement Industry - a subsidiary of Manaseer Group - has commenced actual operations of the new coal and petcoke power plant project feeding its cement plant in Al Qatraneh, at a net capacity of 30 MW. With a total investment value of approximately USD 100 million, the project aims to reduce the electricity expenses of the Modern Cement and Mining Company plant, thus enhancing competitiveness for export to neighboring markets.
“The coal and petcoke power plant project was established and launched upon the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Manaseer Group and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in 2016 - in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment - underscoring our commitment to complying with relevant environmental requirements,” stated Manaseer Cement Industry CEO, Mohammad Manaseer.
In turn, Project Manager, Eng. Hazem Qaqish, commented, “Equipped with state-of-the-art boiler and generator technologies, the plant is the first of its kind in the region to use coal and petroleum coke to produce electricity. In tandem, stringent environmental measures have been implemented, in alignment with local, World Bank and European Union pollutant emission standards.”
